In the midst of the hustle and bustle of Lima, sometimes we all long for an escape to tranquility and nature. What better way to recharge than with a relaxing picnic? In this note, you will find some fascinating options that you can explore, either on your own or on an organized tour, and all in a single day!
Lomas de Lachay - Huaral
Without a doubt, a worthwhile adventure is to go to explore the hills of Lachay, a natural reserve located in the province of Huaura, north of Lima, Peru. It is known for its unique landscape of coastal hills, which are characterized by its fog vegetation and a diversity of flora and fauna adapted to the arid and humid conditions generated by the fog coming from the Pacific Ocean.
To get there you just have to go towards Huaral and there you can find buses that take you to the reserve. You must pay the entrance ticket and you can stay there all afternoon and even have a picnic in their grill areas.
Pachacamac and Lurín
On this full day I recommend waking up early and having a good breakfast with bread with chicharrón in Lurín. Then you can take a bus or a private taxi to Lomas de Lúcumo, a well-marked place where you will also find adventure sports such as rappelling.
This is undoubtedly a low-difficulty trek that you will love to escape from bustling Lima.
Huacho and the beaches
If you like beaches you should know that Lima has a great variety of them both to the North and South. On this full day you can go to Huacho, leaving on a bus from Lima and in less than three hours you will be in this city. Here I recommend starting with a breakfast that includes the famous huachana sausage, something you can't miss.
Then you can stock up on some food and head to the beach to enjoy the day. You can go to Colorado beach, Hornillos, Chorrillos, Puerto Fiel or Las Salinas.
Santa Rosa de Quives and Canta
Santa Rosa de Quives has attracted the attention of many tourists in recent years, especially because its tourist attractions are increasingly promoted. One of them is the famous well of Santa Rosa, where the faithful go to deposit their letters, leaving their dreams to the patron saint of Quives.
To get there you can go from Lima to Canta by bus and then hire a motorcycle taxi to Santa Rosa. Some of the tourist attractions that you could include in the visit are: the Sanctuary of Santa Rosa de Lima, where the chapel that houses the tomb of the saint is located, the House Museum of Santa Rosa de Lima, which shows the life and work of the patron saint of Peru, the Puente de Piedra, a historic structure that crosses the Chillón River and offers picturesque views of the surrounding landscape; and others more.
As you can see, these are just some places that you can visit using public transportation, in an agency or with a private vehicle. All of them less than 3 hours from metropolitan Lima and with affordable costs for everyone.
