Valley of the Geysers in Tacna

The Valley of the Geysers, also known as the Calientes Geysers, is an impressive natural destination located in Tacna, in southern Peru. This is a little-known place, but of great interest to nature and adventure tourism lovers.
The valley is known for its geysers, which are natural hot springs that expel jets of hot water and steam intermittently. These geothermal manifestations are the result of underground volcanic activity in the region.
It is located in the province of Candarave, approximately 120 kilometers from the city of Tacna and about 4,300 meters above sea level, making it a high-altitude destination with a cold climate, especially at night.
How to get there?
From Tacna: You can get to the Valley of the Geysers by private car or on organized tours. The trip from Tacna takes approximately 4 to 5 hours due to the distance and road conditions, which can be bumpy in some sections.
Full day: Some agencies in Tacna offer excursions that include transportation, guides, and sometimes additional stops at points of interest on the route to the geysers. This tour usually costs less than S/ 150 depending on the number of passengers and the date chosen.
Important information:
In some sections you have to hike to get to the geysers. Also, it is important to take into account the altitude.
Bring warm clothing as it is often cold along the way.
At the end of the tour, there is a stop at the Calientes hot springs, where you pay S/ 5.
The tours include food, a guide and transportation.
There is no entrance fee to enter the valley of the geysers.
Buy provisions at the stop in Tarata, as you will not find places to buy food on the way to the geysers.
Agencies usually offer this full day on weekends and holidays. During the week, not all of them offer this package.
